Founder

Dr Kenneth Kang (1963-2017)

Dr. Kenneth Kang was the founder of SBCIA.  With a PhD in Educational Psychology and being an educator himself, he aimed to understand the brain’s role in learning, which sparked his interest in brain training. This eventually led to him starting the first Neurofeedback (NFB) centre in Asia, Spectrum Learning, in 1995, when NFB was still largely unknown in this region.

Over the years, Spectrum Learning has served children with special needs, including ADHD, Autism, and Learning Difficulties, as well as those seeking peak performance. Dr Kenneth had developed NFB training methodologies and treatment protocols, and pioneered a brain mapping technique using qEEG, which he called it functional qEEG. Additionally, Dr Kenneth developed his own Neurofeedback system - which has been successfully utilized by clinicians in hospitals, NFB centers, special needs schools, and universities.

With his expertise and knowledge in this field, he started to train practitioners. They include psychologists, psychiatrist, neurologists, medical doctors, nurses, counsellors, educators, psychotherapists etc. Today, many have successfully integrated neurofeedback into their practice. He knew that only with more trained clinical practitioners coming on board, would the field be able to flourish especially in our Asian community. Hence SBCIA was setup in year 2013 to promote quality NFB services.

Dr. Kenneth led the inaugural Neurofeedback conference in Asia in 2015, marking a significant milestone in which practitioners from the Asia region gathered for the first time. This event fostered learning, experience sharing, and networking to enhance professional development in Neurofeedback. By the conference's, clinicians, researchers, and enthusiasts united to establish the Asia Pacific Neuro-Biofeedback Association (APNA).  APNA aims to promote the professional and clinical use of neurofeedback and biofeedback in the region.
